‼️‼️$200 offered for information about Salo the cat’s whereabouts‼️‼️

Salo was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes on March 27, 2020. He was originally at IACS Shelter Rescue Team (formerly called IACS Rescue) and Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) before HSotD pulled him. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek and the rescue is based out of Chesterton in Northwest Indiana (NWI).

Salo was never publicly posted by the IACS Rescue page until his freedom ride from the shelter, but we received his medical records through a public record request through IACS. Shortly after arriving at the Indy shelter, Salo was brought to the medical department on March 26, 2020 because he was vomiting and leaking urine. His notes stated his bladder was hard and baseball sized, and he was still noted to be leaking urine. A catheter was placed under sedation with notes to recheck daily and pull the catheter 3-4 days later. He was started on urinary prescription food and given antibiotics and pain medication. Urinalysis was performed, showing results consistent with a urinary tract infection. The vet noted he should be rescue only because it could also indicate possible chronic obstruction. The next day, it was noted that Salo had removed his catheter so it was reattached and more pain meds were administered. Later that day, he went to Humane Society of the Dunes. In his freedom ride photo, Salo is seen wearing a cone.

Salo was pulled on a Friday during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jane posted a comment on the “freedom ride” photo of Salo and other cats who went to the rescue that Friday, stating that Salo could not be in better hands than his foster who was a retired surgical nurse, and that he had received fluids and antibiotics. We believe she made this comment on the day after she pulled the cats, Saturday.

Nothing further was ever posted about Salo nor any of the other three cats pulled that day by Humane Society of the Dunes, and their Facebook page has now been deleted. They never posted any updates, nor any fundraisers for these cats who all had medical needs (Hobbes - prolapse repair, Topanga - dental surgery, Salo - sickly with severe urinary issues, Lucas - a specialist visit and possible amputation or rehab).

Where is Salo now? He’d be about 7 years old now and may still have urinary issues. Salo was one of 110+ animals taken by the Humane Society of the Dunes which is in Chesterton (northwest Indiana) a few hours’ drive from Indianapolis. Very few updates were ever shared about any of the animals they “rescued”, and those that were posted have questionable legitimacy.

We are offering $100 for proof of Salo’s whereabouts today and a generous donor is also offering $100. Perhaps the experienced foster who he went to can speak up and tell us what his outcome was. Please share.
