Wesley’s story broke our hearts 💔

‼️$200 for proof of Wesley the dog’s whereabouts. Have you seen him? If you fostered or adopted him, or if you know something, please reach out.‼️ Please share this post!

Wesley was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes on August 8, 2023. He was originally at Indianapolis Animal Care Services before HSotD pulled him. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek and the rescue is based out of Chesterton in Northwest Indiana (NWI).

Although “rescue only” animals are normally posted by the IACS Shelter Rescue Team page (formerly called IACS Rescue), there was no post made by them about Wesley. Oftentimes the rescue coordinator at IACS would reach out to rescues privately without posting the animals publicly, so this was not an uncommon occurrence.

What we know about Wesley’s story from public records requests is very sad. He arrived at the Indy shelter the FIRST time in late 2022, underweight with a body condition score (BCS) of 2-3 out of 9 (5 is ideal). Over time, he got to a more healthy weight at IACS and a volunteer described him as a nice boy who loved getting attention, knew sit, took treats gently, and loved to play with toys.

In February 2023, Wesley was adopted from IACS weighing 45 lbs., but on July 27, 2023 he came back to IACS weighing only 28.8 lbs. He was confiscated from a house where the owner was evicted and had left Wesley behind in a room with no food or water, and he was extremely emaciated when found (BCS 1/9). The shelter notes stated that if the adopter tried to come back to claim, they should be cited for what they had done, but several days later they had made no efforts to claim, and on August 3, a week after he’d come back to IACS, Wesley went to Humane Society of the Dunes.

Wesley was never posted publicly by the IACS Rescue page, nor did Jane ever post anything about him. Publicly, Wesley didn’t exist. What happened to Wesley behind closed doors? Did Jane get him the care he needed? Did he get nursed back to health in a foster home? Did Jane find a good adopter for Wesley after the awful suffering he had experienced previously?

What happened to Wesley in Indianapolis is horrific and we are seeking an answer as to where he is now, desperately hoping that he had a happy outcome after terrible beginnings. Where is Wesley today? There is $200* available to anyone who knows the answer to that question and is willing to provide some proof.

It’s never too late to tell the truth. Please take a moment to look at Wesley’s sweet face, and if you know what happened to him, please speak up for him. Wesley would be about 5 years old now.
