‼️‼️$200 offered for information about Lucas the cat’s whereabouts‼️‼️
Lucas was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes on March 27, 2020. He was originally at IACS Shelter Rescue Team (formerly called IACS Rescue) and Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) before HSotD pulled him. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek and the rescue is based out of Chesterton in Northwest Indiana (NWI).
Lucas needed rescue from the Indy shelter because he had what was believed to be an old injury to his front limb, causing ambulatory issues. The shelter suggested amputation would likely be necessary. Lucas was described by IACS staff as the sweetest kitty.
Lucas was pulled on a Friday during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jane posted a comment on the “freedom ride” photo of Lucas and other cats who went to the rescue that Friday, stating that Lucas had a visit scheduled for Tuesday with a specialist in Chicago and that another cat (Hobbes) had already had a surgery. We believe she made this comment on the day after she pulled the cats, Saturday.
When IACS inspected Humane Society of the Dunes in 2023, the report stated that Jane said the animals almost always went straight to the vet after she pulls them, then she takes them back to her “shelter” to heal and evaluate before finding a foster. If we are correct that she posted her comment the Saturday the day after she took these cats from IACS, she got Lucas booked into the Chicago specialist quickly.
Nothing further was ever posted about Lucas nor any of the other three cats pulled that day by Humane Society of the Dunes, and their Facebook page has now been deleted. They never posted any updates, nor any fundraisers for these cats who all had medical needs (Hobbes - prolapse repair, Topanga - dental surgery, Salo - sickly with unknown health issues, Lucas - a specialist visit and possible amputation or rehab).
Where is Lucas now? He’d be about 7 years old now and may be missing a front limb or have mobility issues still. Lucas was one of 110+ animals taken by the Humane Society of the Dunes which is in Chesterton (northwest Indiana) a few hours’ drive from Indianapolis. Very few updates were ever shared about any of the animals they “rescued”, and those that were posted have questionable legitimacy.
We are offering $100 for proof of Lucas’s whereabouts today and a generous donor is also offering $100. If you know where he is, reach out, even if you aren’t his foster or adopter. If you know what happened to him or any of the other animals Humane Society of the Dunes pulled from IACS between 2019 and 2023, we’d like to hear from you, desperately. Anonymous submissions are welcome on our website. The time to speak up is now.
