Jill was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes on May 21, 2023. She was originally at Indianapolis Animal Care Services before HSotD pulled her. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek and the rescue is based out of Chesterton in Northwest Indiana (NWI).
Although “rescue only” animals are normally posted by the IACS Shelter Rescue Team page (formerly called IACS Rescue), there was no post made by them about Jill. Oftentimes the rescue coordinator at IACS would reach out to rescues privately without posting the animals publicly, so this was not an uncommon occurrence.
From public records requests, we know Jill was surrendered by her owner to IACS on April 28, 2023 at the age of 10 years old. Notes by shelter staff listed her as sweet, calm, easy to handle, and allowing petting. She came to the shelter with an upper respiratory infection which she had mostly recovered from by the time she went to Humane Society of the Dunes. An exam by the IACS vet revealed Jill had abundant dental tartar and would need a dental with several tooth extractions due to gingival recession. This is likely why Jill was “rescue only”.
On the day Jill left the Indy shelter and went to Humane Society of the Dunes, Jane took three other IACS cats as well (Mochi, Nugget, and Gerald). No updates nor fundraisers nor anything else were ever posted about these four cats after Jane took them.
Where is Jill today? There is $200* available to anyone who knows the answer to that question and is willing to provide some proof. She would be about 12 years old today.
