Offering $100 for proof of Topaz’s current condition and a civil-on-both-sides 15 minute conversation with her owner.

Please, do not harass anyone based on this post. All of the comments posted here in the photos are/were on public posts and were not posted with the expectation of privacy.

Topaz was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes in September 2022. She was originally at IACS Shelter Rescue Team (formerly called IACS Rescue) and Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) before HSotD pulled her. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek and the rescue is based out of Chesterton in Northwest Indiana (NWI).

Topaz was “rescue only” at the Indy shelter because she had a serious skin issue and a grade 5 heart murmur.

On December 28, 2023, on a public post asking about the whereabouts of the IACS animals that went to Humane Society of the Dunes, a photo of Topaz was shared inquiring where she was.

To date, this is the ONLY time any of these posts has reached one of their adopters who decided to respond. The person who adopted Topaz, Margie Blatsioris-Jenkins, responded on December 29, 2023 and stated that she had spent thousands of dollars on Topaz’s skin condition and the dog was now named Tobi. Margie is the sister of Jane Blatsioris-Hullsiek. We won’t belabor the point (read the conversation below), but she was unwilling to provide photos of Topaz and claimed that other adopters were too scared to come forward.

After her rescue from the Indy shelter in September 2022, no updates were posted about Topaz by Humane Society of the Dunes until February 2024 when she posted a number of unusual “updates” over the course of several hours. The “update” she posted about Topaz was also unusual:

  • ❓Although she’d been adopted 1.5 years previously by someone who claimed she was doing well and it had cost thousands of dollars to treat her skin, the photo posted showed Topaz in very poor condition.

  • ❓The vegetation in the background was green, an unusual occurrence for February in Northwest Indiana.

  • ❓Although her own sister adopted the dog, the most substantial “update” she could provide was spelling the dog’s name wrong (Toby) and saying she lived the good life and liked getting up on the picnic table?

This is a continual pattern of behavior on Jane’s part, to obtusely and steadfastly refuse to understand what an “update” actually is, or provide any substantial information nor current photographs. As with many of the other photos Jane posted as “updates”, it’s very likely that photo of Topaz was taken on her own property within hours or days of her leaving the shelter in Indianapolis.

Then, on the same post by Humane Society of the Dunes, a commenter stated that Topaz did not look good. The commenter was correct, in the photo Jane provided, Topaz obviously did not look good. Margie then commented on February 19, 2024, disagreeing and saying she had adopted Tobie (spelling it differently than she had less than two months previously). She again reiterated she had spent a lot of money on Tobi(e?)’s care, but did not provide any photos showing that the dog didn’t still look awful.

We debated posting this one because there are a lot of animals whose whereabouts are unknown who deserve to be posted and have their stories known, and Topaz is supposedly safe with Jane’s sister Margie. But we knew Topaz and want to know WITH PROOF that she is truly okay and got the care she deserved. Same as every other animal posted on this page. So we posted her, and again, are offering $100 for a substantial update with proof and a little bit of time to have a civil conversation. If her adopter isn’t interested, perhaps people who know her adopter and can obtain proof want that cash. All that matters to us is that Topaz is safe and being treated well.
