Kit Kat was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes in summer 2020. She was originally at IACS Shelter Rescue Team (formerly called IACS Rescue) and Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) before HSotD pulled her. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek. Kit Kat’s story was very sad. She was four-paw declawed and had begun peeing outside the litterbox, in the bathtub and on furniture. Her owner surrendered her to the shelter. She had bone fragments from the botched declaw and would need surgical paw repair. The shelter stated they were not able to handle Kit Kat due to her behavior of hissing, swatting, and lunging.
No updates were ever posted about Kit Kat by Humane Society of the Dunes, and their Facebook page has now been deleted. She’d be about 13 years old now. Kit Kat was one of 110+ IACS animals taken by the Humane Society of the Dunes which is in Chesterton (northwest Indiana (NWI)) a few hours’ drive from Indianapolis. Very few updates were ever shared about any of the animals they “rescued”, and those that were posted have questionable legitimacy. At the end of 2023, IACS stopped allowing Humane Society of the Dunes to pull animals from them.
We are offering $100 for proof of Kit Kat’s whereabouts today. If you know where she is, reach out, even if you aren’t her foster or adopter. If you know what happened to her or any of the other animals Humane Society of the Dunes pulled from IACS between 2019 and 2023, we’d like to hear from you, desperately. Anonymous submissions are welcome on our website. The time to speak up is now.
