Dex was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes in September 2022. He was originally at IACS Shelter Rescue Team (formerly called IACS Rescue) and Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) before HSotD pulled him. The founder of the rescue is Georgia “Jane” Hullsiek and it is based out of Chesterton, located in Northwest Indiana (NWI).
Dex’s story was heartbreaking. He was found in an abandoned house after IACS Animal Control Officers were called out to the property for dogs fighting in the yard. He was found locked in a room by himself inside the abandoned house with no food or water and surrounded by urine and feces. He had severe skin issues. Even after everything he’d been through, he was described as very sweet and happy - a great dog who also knew several commands.
No updates were ever posted about Dex by Humane Society of the Dunes, and their Facebook page has now been deleted. He’d be about 11 years old now.
We are offering $100 for proof of Dex’s whereabouts today. If you know where he is, reach out, even if you aren’t his foster or adopter. If you know what happened to him or any of the other 110+ animals Humane Society of the Dunes pulled from IACS between 2019 and 2023, we’d like to hear from you. Anonymous submissions are welcome on our website. Please let us know where Dex is now.
