Mila was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes in March 2023. She was originally at IACS Rescue and Indianapolis Animal Care Services before HSotD pulled her. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek. Mila needed rescue from the shelter because she had a torn cruciate ligament which would require surgery. She was also suffering from bloody, runny poops at the shelter, possibly from giardia.
When a rescue animal leaves the shelter and goes to rescue, traditionally a “freedom ride” photo will be posted to show proof that the animal is on its way to rescue. The IACS Rescue page posted Mila’s freedom ride photo in March 2023. In it, there is a live trap with “Humane Society of the Dunes” written on it.
In February 2024, after very infrequently posting anything from their social media for the last several years, Humane Society of the Dunes went on a social media blitz, providing a number of unusual “updates” on mostly IACS animals they had pulled. They posted the same photo of Mila from March 2023, but stated, “Mila loves to ride and is on her way for a pup cup at Dairy Queen!”. The image was cropped, so the trap with the rescue’s name was no longer visible in the photo. Instead of providing a more recent photo or a photo from a foster or adopter, they chose to use a photo from the same day Mila left the shelter. Comments on Mila’s “update” post are restricted by the Humane Society of the Dunes Facebook account.
We are offering a $100 gift to anyone who can provide proof of Mila’s whereabouts today. If you adopted or fostered her, please reach out. You can DM our Facebook page, send us an email, or submit the contact form on our website.
