Ethan was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes in January 2020. He was originally at IACS Rescue and Indianapolis Animal Care Services before HSotD pulled him. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsiek. Around the time of Ethan’s rescue, an organization called Indy’s Voice 4 Animals had pledged money toward the care of many IACS animals on the IACS Rescue page, to be paid directly to the vet with an invoice. Ethan was one of those animals.
Indy’s Voice 4 Animals posted an update in 2020 on Ethan that they received from Jane Hullsiek, which stated his foster family had adopted him, and provided a picture with Ethan’s “sister” Greta (sic). In the update, it does not appear that Jane revealed that Gretta is her own pet dog. So did Jane adopt Ethan herself?
The few photos that can be found of Ethan all appear to be in her house. That spotted rug appears in many of the photos of rescue animals provided by Humane Society of the Dunes on their webpage and their Facebook page, even though she claimed that rescue animals do not enter the house and that was why IACS did not inspect inside. Jane lied when she told IACS that.
Ethan was rescued in January 2020 and if Jane Hullsiek kept him, he was the first of several:
- 🗓️March 2022, she told an IACS volunteer that she was keeping Aric, another IACS dog.
- 🗓️May 2022, she rescued Misty from IACS, who she adopted as well.
- 🗓️January 2023, she adopted Nixon, another IACS dog.
- 🔎February 2023, IACS did a pre-announced inspection of her facility. Ethan, Aric, and Nixon were not present although she claimed she still owned Nixon. No mention of Ethan or Aric in the inspection report. Misty was onsite and we have photo evidence she was still there at least in 2024. Gretta was also present at time of inspection and in 2024 photos.
- 🗓️March 2023, she pulled IACS dog Queso and told an IACS volunteer she might keep him.
- 🗓️December 2023 she told an IACS volunteer she had rehomed Nixon, although it is not clear when the rehoming occurred (see our previous post about Nixon).
Where is Ethan today? He was already a senior, estimated to be 10 years old when he left IACS in early 2020, although the IACS vet said he was in good health. Jane Blatsioris Hullsiek stated he got adopted. So did he live out the rest of his life with Jane? Did she rehome him like she said she did with Nixon, and possibly Aric and Queso? Hopefully she or someone else can provide an answer. We are offering $100 for proof of Ethan’s current whereabouts.
